Spinnaker Tower Sky Bar

Project Overview

This project for Spinnaker Tower initially began as the isolation and removal of the existing floor socket boxes; this then developed into a larger project as outlined by the work undertaken in the project process section. This project was an example of our emergency lighting, lighting, investigation and testing services, if you have a project with similar requirements contact us HERE.

How We Completed The Project:

This project was designed based on the clients requirements and vision for the new bar area. We utilised our expertise and creativity to create an aesthetic which met with the clients expectations. Samples were gathered and approved by the client and supplied through Hacel Lighting.

Limited time constraints contributed to a challenging yet rewarding programme which was adhered to and completed to the satisfaction of our client.

Project USP

Our USP for this project would be our in depth knowledge of lighting designs and ability to understand and incorporate them with our clients vision to create a genuinely stunning installation to the satisfaction of all. Our BAFE accreditation including our FIA trained in both design and advanced courses enabled us to produce a compliant emergency lighting arrangement.

Team Requirements:

A good percentage of the work was carried out with two engineers on site for the investigations, strip out and first fix of the new supplies. We then left site to accommodate temporary public use of the bar area during the half term and then for the initial fit out of the new bar and flooring. We then had a team of six electricians on site for a short duration of time to ensure that all the new lighting could be fitted and commissioned within the time constraints.

Project Process:

  • Investigation, re-routing and capping off of floor boxes
Investigation and relocation of services on the wall behind the bar area
  • Installation of new final circuit cabling from the upstairs plant room to the new riser cupboard (old
WC) to allow for the new power arrangements for tills and kitchen/bar equipment
  • Investigation for the adaptation to the fixed wiring for the new lighting scheme.
  • New designs and proposal for the new lighting scheme including remote control system and scene selection
  • Installation of new LED strip and extrusions for the 25 shelves behind the bar
  • Installation of the new wiring inside the bar itself to the new machines/sockets (From the riser
    cupboard)
  • Wiring and installation of the new ceiling lighting arrangement including gold fittings and blue LED
    strips and controls
  • Emergency lighting installation
  • USB Charging sockets

Project Challenges & Solutions:

The main challenge of this project was the interaction with other trades. We quickly formulated a new programme of works so as not to impede the installation of the new floor and bespoke bar area and to complete the installation of our works within the allotted time frame. This was achieved to a high level of success over a period of two working sections.

After Project Care:

Following hand over we arranged a training session with all relevant staff at the tower to offer instruction on the new lighting and how to access the portal in order to adjust the scenes for themselves should that be required. We did attend the site once more after that to assist with the setting up of a further scene
which was completed to the satisfaction of the client.
